What's happening this week

Tiny webbed fingers and toes are forming on all three, and each is starting to twitch and wriggle in ways far too small for you to feel. Their eyelids are sealing shut for now, tucked away until they're ready to open.

A scan might show one is a little bigger or smaller than the others — completely normal. Even sharing a womb, siblings rarely do everything at exactly the same pace.

Three little wonders this week

  • Tiny nerve pathways are branching out and starting to connect inside all three.
  • Breathing tubes are stretching down from the throat toward where lungs will grow.
  • Their movements are real now, though as delicate as a shrimp flicking about in a teaspoon of water.

The triplet twist

You'll likely be introduced to a specialist team fairly soon, and scans will come round more often than they would for one baby — simply because there's more to gently keep an eye on with three.

Something to look forward to

  • Your regular scans keep coming, and around 11–13 weeks you'll have a detailed look where each baby is measured and checked individually.
  • Nausea tends to peak around now and then start easing off from about week 13.

To Mom:

Those tiny raspberries are starting to wriggle and twitch, each beginning their own journey in the comfort of your womb. Take a deep breath and remember that you and your babies are already a team.
