What's happening this week

Welcome to the third trimester, where the real fun begins. All three of your babies can now dream — three sets of eyes flicker under closed lids as their little brains practise for the world. Fat is padding out their skin, smoothing the wrinkles, turning them from wizened to plump right in front of the ultrasound.

From here your appointments start coming thick and fast, and honestly, that is a gift. Each visit is a chance to peek in and see how your trio is splitting up the enormous job of growing. You are doing so much, even sitting still.

Three little wonders this week

  • All three can blink now, with a full, fluttery set of eyelashes each.
  • They already know your voice and may settle when they hear it, or when a favourite song comes on.
  • Together they are packing on close to half a kilo a week, and every gram comes from you.

The triplet twist

From here your check-ins become weekly or even twice-weekly, with growth scans every couple of weeks — far more often than a singleton mama would see her doctor. Think of it as extra chances to say hello to your three.

Something to look forward to

  • About 4 weeks until 32 weeks, when triplets often start making their entrance.
  • Roughly 6 weeks until 34 weeks, the week most triplet trios choose to arrive — a lovely nudge to start finalising names and car seats.

Why week 28 matters

At 28 weeks, babies born now do wonderfully with a little help settling into breathing and feeding, and almost all go home happy and healthy. If you have been holding your breath, this is a good week to let it out.

To Mom:

You've reached a milestone many triplet moms look toward with hope. Take credit for every single day you've given these babies.
