What's happening this week

Brains are buzzing with more activity, and all three may start hiccupping — those small, rhythmic taps you can practically set a clock by. They know your voice by now, and your partner's too.

Together your three now weigh about as much as one single baby would at this point. This is often the week triplet pregnancy starts to feel wonderfully, seriously real.

Three little wonders this week

  • Their brains are growing the grooves and folds that will triple in surface area by the time they're born.
  • Real sleep cycles are underway now, dreaming included — all three are very likely dreaming already.
  • Hiccups are just their diaphragms practising, and they can pop up several times a day.

The triplet twist

Your three already weigh together what a singleton baby wouldn't reach until much later in pregnancy — your body is doing late-pregnancy work weeks ahead of schedule, so be gentle with yourself.

Something to look forward to

  • Next week brings the 28-week milestone and the start of the third trimester.
  • If an early arrival looks likely, your team may talk soon about steroid shots to help little lungs along.

To Mom:

As you get closer to the third trimester, take a moment to be proud of the incredible work your body is doing every second of the day. You are such a capable, devoted mum, and you are doing an amazing job with your growing trio.
