What's happening this week

Eyes are opening for the very first time in all three, blinking at any brightness that reaches through your belly. They're practising their breathing, drawing fluid gently in and out.

You might notice one baby stirring the moment another one moves. In a snug shared home like theirs, a stretch from one becomes a nudge for somebody else.

Three little wonders this week

  • Eyelids unseal this week after months sealed shut — their eye colour is set, though it may keep changing for a year after birth.
  • All three respond to sound with a real change in heartbeat and movement.
  • Their immune systems are starting to receive protective antibodies from you, passed along through the placenta.

The triplet twist

Carrying triplets means an earlier arrival is much more likely than with one baby, which is why your whole care schedule — scans, steroids, the hospital bag — runs a few steps ahead of a typical pregnancy.

Something to look forward to

  • 2 weeks until 28 weeks and the start of the third trimester.
  • About 6 weeks until 32 weeks, when arrival becomes a real possibility.

To Mom:

Watching your babies move and respond is such a magical part of this journey. When the days feel long, try to find a small moment of peace just for you; you are so strong, and your babies are so lucky to have you.
