What's happening this week

A creamy, waxy coating is forming over three sets of delicate skin, protecting them from months of floating in fluid. Meanwhile their brains are busy mapping out touch, taste, smell and hearing.

Their movements are starting to feel like themselves rather than random flutters. Many triplet mums notice around now that one of the three is clearly the wriggler — a personality announcing itself long before there's a name to go with it.

Three little wonders this week

  • That waxy coating is called vernix, and a little of it often still clings on at birth.
  • The touch centres of the brain are being built first, ahead of taste, smell and hearing.
  • Kidneys are steadily making urine, and soft hair is sprouting on three scalps.

The triplet twist

Carrying three is genuinely more physical work, so most triplet mums are told to slow down and step back from long hours on their feet earlier than a singleton mum would be — think of it as permission, not a restriction.

Something to look forward to

  • The calendar says halfway is coming up next week — though with triplets, you may well already be past your personal halfway point.
  • About 5 weeks to go until viability.

To Mom:

Your bump is a beautiful testament to the strength you hold. When things feel overwhelming, try to remember that every quiet moment you take to rest is a gift to your three little ones.
