What's happening this week

The essentials are all in place now, and each of your three is quietly practising what their little organs will do for a lifetime. Tiny nails are starting on fingers and toes, and their bones are slowly firming up from the inside.

From here, the story becomes one of sharing — three sets of tiny lungs, kidneys and stomachs, all leaning on one incredible bloodstream. Yours.

Three little wonders this week

  • All three are officially little fetuses now — the big building work is done, and growing is the job from here.
  • Tiny tummies are starting to make digestive juices, and kidneys are busy too.
  • Soft cartilage is beginning to turn to real bone, starting with collarbones and legs.

The triplet twist

Some of the usual blood screening tests work differently with triplets, since it's trickier to say which baby a result belongs to — so your team may lean more on ultrasound to keep watch over each of your three individually.

Something to look forward to

  • You're about 2 weeks from the end of the first trimester, when many parents finally get some of their energy back.
  • First flutters of movement are often felt a little earlier with triplets — maybe from around week 16, so keep your ears (or tummy) open.

To Mom:

Your babies are now little kumquats, and their tiny organs are already hard at work thanks to your incredible support. You are providing everything three little souls need to flourish, which is nothing short of amazing.
